"Kregron, come here." Madam Perria motioned weakly to a young man with a great monstrous left arm, who shuffled over to the fallen matron lying in a expanding pool of crimson blood. Kregron grabbed her small hand and stroked her weathered cheek, tears flowing from his eyes. he tried hard to cease his sobs but ended up making awkward gulping sounds.
"You dying?" He spoke in between gasps. The mousy-haired woman simply smiled and choked a bit. She reached up to his face and cupped his cheeks. "You are a gentle giant, Kregron."
"Don't go." Kregron sobbed harder as he felt the strength in his guardian's hands began to waver.
"Sometimes we have to leave, but we always remember the times we have together filled with warmth and happiness." Madam Perria uttered, barely keeping her eyes open. "Keep it in your heart, my dear."
Then she breathed once more and closed her eyes, a smile lingering on her teary face. Terrible howls filled the night, frightening the animals away from the burning orphanage. The edifice collapsed when the fire grew too strong, biting away the foundations that held it up. The howls stopped and an eerie silence enclosed the area. It was a strange event, where one could not hear the fire burning or the random cracks.
A blazing figure burst out of the rubble, screaming hysterically as it thrashed its way through the light forest. On it ran, gaining much speed dramatically. Within seconds, a sleepy town loomed ahead and the creature roared furiously. People in their slumber were awoken abruptly by the sudden chill, which had somehow slipped through their thick blankets and woolen nightwear. The monster let out another earth-shaking roar, alarming the citizens. It spotted a drunkard slumped on the cobblestone road. Pouncing the poor man immediately, it tore the human apart, limb by limb, every motion full of rage.
Guardsmen soon arrived to the source of the screaming and shrieking, only to find a gruesome sight. The street was filled with body parts, windows and doors on each building broken. There, in front of them was the jet-black horror. All they saw was a red cross-hair, gleaming brightly in the relative darkness.
The sole survivor of the active guardsmen kept muttering about murderers, robbers and justice. From this, the townspeople assumed the monster came to impart cruel vengeance on the town for hiding criminals, men who had taken the orphans and slain all the adults at the failing Sunshine Orphanage. Ever since the incident, the surrounding forests provided numerous reports of the monster lurking around, waiting for travelers. It was then known as a fact that those who traveled alone were safe. Anyone moving with a partner or more was slaughtered mercilessly.
It has been a hundred years since the tragedy, the town has prospered and grown more sophisticated. Unfortunately, the terror still lived in the forests, continuing its mysterious crusade to kill groups of people and leaving lone humans untouched. The forest was named 'Woods of Solitude'. And it was the place which attracted the attention of scientist Infynnio and his bodyguard, Lenrio Kretacor.
